Yet Another Upgrade

Another upgrade for Javelin has been released this morning. The new version is 5.0.0.592 and it was released by Wind Hellas. Strangely, when I browsed the site around 10.00 AM Indonesian time, the file was not there. The download page for Javelin at Wind Hellas still only showed version 5.0.0.509 as the latest version. It was not the first time I have problem with Wind Hellas. The last time I tried to download 5.0.0.509, the download place was replaced by text saying that the file I have been looking for was revoked (this is the page after you entered your detail and agree to the terms and conditions). Luckily, Bosen.net has the file here. As usual I upgraded my javelin. There is nothing spectacular apart from the official twitter client (still in beta though). I might try after  reaching stable version, meanwhile I will stick to ubertwitter.

Latest Javelin Upgrade

The previous upgrade on my Javelin from OS 5.0.0.411 Optus to OS 5.0.0.461 Cosmote has disabled the keypad lock button and function. Since then I have tried to installed the same OS from Singtel and/or Telkomsel (the actual vendor of my Javelin as in the vendor id) and Indosat. However, I believe Cosmote has the best battery, performance, and memory management.

Recently, Wind Hellas has released he new OS 5.0.0.509. I have struggled to download the file but eventually succeeded. As usual the upgrade went smooth. Surprisingly, the new OS has restore the keypad lock function. Although the keypad lock icon is still missing, but the keypad button on top of Javelin has been working again. Instead of locking the keypad, the button now served as standby button. Just one press and Javelin will sleep.

Confession

I admit that I am an upgrade junkie. Eversince I laid my hand on my first PC (bought by my dad using motorcycle funds) I have tried to upgrade and squeeze every bit of it. Windows is not really fun in term of upgrade since I felt it is only for catching up bugs. Another think is MS product tend to bloated and become slower each time the upgrade went public. The exception might be Windows 7. It feel snappier than XP let alone Vista.
Recently my attention have been directed toward Blackberry. With this device, each upgrade is make the device better (overall). Sure it has some quirk like the disabling of keypad lock on 8900 running 5.0.0.411 and 461. Every upgrade gave a squeeze of memory, better memory management, snappier performance, better battery life, and so on.
In line with my upgrade addiction, RIM has been releasing versions of OS 5 rapidly through many cellphone operators all over the world. And do not forget the leaked versions too.
Yes I am an upgrade junkie and RIM is the dealer.

Upgrading My Javelin Again

After a success story with upgrading my Javelin at here, RIM has released another version of OS 5 for 8900. The latest version is 5.0.0.461. You can find it here. All are released for operator in Europe. I upgraded the Javelin to 5.0.0.411 with OS from Optus Mobile (Asia). Nevertheless I did the upgrade anyway. Afterward, I do not notice any differences in term of performance, memory, and stability. All software that I use on regular basis work just fine. I am still observing the battery, similar to 411 would be good enough for me. However, I notice that the keyboard/keypad lock icon is missing. The keyboard/keypad lock on top of the device also does not work.

Karmic Koala

It has been a while since I received Ubuntu 9.10 CD (a.k.a KARMIC KOALA). Today I try to install it to my laptop (Compaq Presario V3837TU). I have the old hard disk drive (I put a 250GB hdd for Windows 7 and keep the original 120GB hdd for this occasion) . I popped the old 120Gb hdd back to its place, load the Koala CD, and start up the laptop. The installation Continue reading Karmic Koala
